THE PROBLEM: Sheila Ford tried for more than two years to get repairs to a B Street curb, badly damaged by trucks during utility undergrounding work near her mother-in-law's Golden Hill home.

THE SITE: B Street at 30th Street, Golden Hill

The city of San Diego, which has a long backlog of similar work, finally put out some no-parking signs in January and arranged for a contractor to do the job. The result was a brand-new, perfectly constructed curb – around the corner on 30th Street. Nothing at all was done on B Street.
Ford said the damage to the B Street side – where in some spots the curb simply doesn't exist anymore – was far worse than on 30th Street, where there were just a few cracks. John Baldwin, whose home is on the corner and who parks his car along the damaged side, agreed, saying 30th Street “wasn't that bad to begin with.”
Now Ford is wondering if the opportunity for repair has come and gone.
STATUS: “It's scheduled to be done in the next 60 days,” said Hasan Yousef, deputy director of the Street Division.
Yousef said the contractor may have been working off instructions that used the 30th Street side for an address, and inadvertently overlooked B Street.
City workers were out to look at the curb Friday, and the job is back on the Street Division's to-do list.
