Caltrans, city get job done on 2 problems

UNION-TRIBUNE STAFF WRITER

November 10, 2008

From Golden Hill to El Cajon, two Just Fix It complaints with happy endings.

THE SITE: Caltrans Park & Ride lot in El Cajon.
IT'S FIXED 1: A curb along B Street in Golden Hill was torn up by trucks during utility burial work about three years ago. Sheila Ford repeatedly called in the problem to the San Diego Street Division, but when a contractor showed up in January, the repair crew worked on an undamaged curb around the corner on 30th Street instead.

Hasan Yousef, deputy director of the Street Division, said last month that the work would be finished within two months and delivered on his promise in half the time. Ford said the curb was repaired about two weeks ago and that “they did a really good job.”

WHO FIXED IT: Hasan Yousef, who can be reached at (619) 527-7504 or hyousef@sandiego.gov. To request a street repair, call the Street Division at (619) 527-7500 or go to apps.sandiego.gov/streetdiv.

IT'S FIXED 2: The Caltrans Park & Ride lot on East Washington Avenue in El Cajon was blocked off for resurfacing last year, but stayed off-limits far past the “Winter '07” reopening promised on a sign.

Work got stalled when a developer who bought the lot couldn't complete the job. Work restarted and stopped again in June, still unfinished.

Now the lot is back in business. Caltrans ended up calling out a performance bond to get the work done, spokesman Ed Cartagena said.

Cartagena said the lot wasn't officially reopened last week, when on Wednesday afternoon there was one lonely car among the 55 spaces. But the barricades have been removed, and Cartagena said the finishing touches are expected very soon.

NEED A PROBLEM SOLVED: Is there a problem government hasn't fixed despite your complaints? Just Fix It might be able to help.
