Today we catch up on outcomes of recent calls to Just Fix It from Rancho Bernardo and Rancho San Diego.
IT'S FIXED: The report of a whole street without working lights sounded like a major malfunction, but it also turned out to be a crime.
Wieghorst Way in Rancho San Diego went dark in October when thieves broke into the concrete box that provides access to electrical conduits and stole yards and yards of copper wire, conking out at least 22 lights.
The County of San Diego wanted to strengthen the security of the system on Wieghorst Way before replacing the wiring, as it is doing in other locations struck by an epidemic of copper-wire theft.
The lights went back on Tuesday, said resident John Buesing, who wrote in on the problem for a Just Fix It column that appeared Nov. 14.
Buesing said he saw county crews working on the problem for several days. Before finishing, they put up signs asking anyone witnessing suspected wire theft to call 911.
WHO FIXED IT: Michael Robinson, who can be reached at michael.robinson@sdcounty.ca.gov, or call (858) 874-4040 to report malfunctioning streetlights in unincorporated portions of San Diego County.
IT'S FIXED: White lane markings and left-turn arrows have been restored to the pavement on Higa Place, a side street off Pomerado Road in Rancho Bernardo.

THE SITE: Lane markings have been restored on Higa Place in Rancho Bernardo.

A Nov. 12 column reported the markings weren't replaced after a contractor resurfaced the street about two months earlier. The city quickly reacted to resident John Hinkle's complaint and the markings were restored the day the article was published.
