SAN DIEGO – A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted early Tuesday morning while walking on a bike path in La Jolla, police said.
Police spokeswoman Monica Muñoz said a citizen found the injured woman lying on the path near Draper Avenue and Gravilla Street in the vicinity of Starkey Park about 6:40 a.m. The citizen contacted firefighters at a nearby station, who responded and called police.
She was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released for injuries to her face. The woman, who lives in La Jolla, told police the man punched her in the face, Muñoz said.
Based on a description given by the victim, officers located a possible suspect nearby. He was questioned by sex-crimes detectives and booked into county jail on outstanding warrants, but the victim told police that the man arrested is not the man who assaulted her, Muñoz said.
Munoz said the victim described the suspect as a white male in his 40s who was “acting strangely.”
Police were continuing to investigate the case, Munoz said.
