SAN DIEGO – A 24-year-old United States citizen who had been driving in a a SENTRI lane was arrested at the San Ysidro Port of Entry on suspicion of smuggling marijuana, authorities said Tuesday.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said a computer randomly selected the vehicle, a 1998 Hyundai Accent, for referral to a secondary inspection area about 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers found one wrapped package of marijuana weighing 3½ pounds hidden in the car's right-rear side panel.

The car and drugs were seized. The driver was booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The SENTRI lanes are reserved for travelers who have undergone extensive security background checks.
