SAN DIEGO COURTS: Two gang members convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of a pair of brothers in Lomita last year were sentenced yesterday to 80 years to life in prison.
A jury found Carlos Carrasco, 20, and Jose Nogales, 16, guilty Sept. 16 of two counts of second-degree murder, shooting at an inhabited residence, and gang and gun-use charges.
San Diego Superior Court Judge John Thompson found Nogales, who was tried as an adult, guilty of being a felon in possession of a gun. Both defendants have other felony cases pending.
Carrasco and Nogales were accused in connection with the killings of John Perez, 33, and Frank Perez, 35. The brothers were shot July 8, 2007, as they stood outside their parents' Sawtelle Avenue home.
Deputy District Attorney Frank Jackson has said Carrasco and Nogales are documented gang members from Paradise Hills. There was no evidence linking the Perez brothers to gang activity. –D.L.
